Go Lucky by Thierry Chow is a contemporary concept fusing Feng Shui with mindful, modern design to create the space you love. Feng Shui runs in the family for Thierry Chow. Since 2011, Thierry has been apprenticing under her father, Mr Chow Hon Ming, one of Hong Kong’s most respected Feng Shui masters. Thierry Chow needed a way to be able to communicate complex metaphysical terms easily and aesthetically, as well as to have an identity that can encompass this all.
Process
kith&kin worked with Thierry Chow to create a visual identity that would help her launch her own Feng Shui practice. Our process with Thierry began by firstly taking her through a series of workshops to figure out how to position herself away from the traditional Feng Shui industry and to find her own voice in a very traditional craft. A key insight from the workshops was that Thierry seeks to show that Feng Shui is neither magic nor superstition, but an effective and practical way to transform homes or offices into surroundings that soothe and inspire spaces people want to be in.
Visual Identity Design
For the visual design, we looked at the five elements which are at the core of Feng Shui and how these elements are represented by colours and dots, as well as how the elements interact with each other. From this, we created an iconography system using dots and colour so that the elements could be used in various combinations to represent each individual person. The colour gradients are a platform to communicate each person’s unique elemental makeup. We created an ever-evolving composition, an organic system that is flexible and allows each individual client's needs to be uniquely reflected. This iconography system is a platform through which Thierry can uniquely communicate with each client.
Product Development
For product development, we collaborated with Vincent Fan, a Hong Kong-born product designer based in the UK, to design and develop the three core products. Each product is made from different materials to represent the different elements and their animal forms also have symbolism. We also collaborated with Florian and Christine, local Hong Kong product designers, to create the packaging for the products. Florian and Christine specifically focus on sustainable materials and set out to develop a system that can fit all three of the products without using any glue, meaning it is 100% recyclable and easier to flatpack too.
Impact
Following the launch of Go Lucky by Thierry Chow, Thierry has enjoyed immense success including exclusive interviews with CNN, BBC, Vogue features as well as her collaboration with Lane Crawford.
